High Performance Teams

Creating high performing teams in the operating theatre can only be achieved through optimising flowing systems of work, removing futility and observing the hard boundaries of time, infrastructure and human resources available. In order to perform at your best, you have to be at your best. The biggest enemies to performance in healthcare are fatigue and our own expectations of ourselves. In reality, we drop imperfect people into crap systems of work and expect them to be perfect, whereas we should aspire to insert ordinary clinicians into well designed systems of work so that they can easily perform well. You already have all the permission you need to be the change you want to see in your own workplace, and it starts with everybody being on the same page and observing the psychomotor limits of human effectiveness.
