With Rob poised to present at the Knowlex Conference in Birmingham on June 11, he takes the podium to a backdrop of a recent Care Quality Commission Report linking bullying by surgeons to a series of Never Events.
Cultural change is never easy when it challenges the rights of hierarchy to behave in ways contrary to the wellbeing of others.
Funnily enough, the anniversary a few days later on June 15 of the declaration of the first signing of the Magna Carta limiting the rights of kings followed a similarly difficult trajectory to ‘Below Ten Thousand’ a clinician led cultural paradigm at the heart of Rob’s excellent work.
Whilst the Magna Carta heralded the constitutional birth of democracy for Empires, ‘Below Ten Thousand’ offers the right of any clinician to democratically call for situational awareness in the interests of safe clinical practice.
It may seem a no-brainer, but in the end Rob’s advocacy may still ruffle the feathers of those who still yearn for the divine rights of kings.
