'Below Ten Thousand' is such a simple thing.
It is a simple act designed to bring a team together at sentinel points in an operation in order to maximise the safety of the patient and maximise the effectiveness of the clinical team.
In terms of changing behaviour, 'Below Ten Thousand' is easier than giving up smoking.
But sometimes people are addicted, not just to their habits, but also to the autonomy that allows them to engage in self-destructive ways.
Noise and distraction in the operating theatre is like smoking.
It corrodes patient safety like fags corrode their lungs.
We know how we feel about cigarettes.
How should we feel about distractions?
