Seeking Clarity (CLEAR)

.
I am in the process of prepping for an interview on Monday.
.
I've filled out the starter pack and returned it to the hospital concerned, and whilst doing it, noticed the usual forms on privacy and professional behaviour.
.
Standard questions.
.
The words that struck me, though, were the corporate values.
.
They weren't in the pack per se.
They were hidden under the logo on the very first page.
.
Compassion, Leadership, Excellence, Accountability, Respect.
.
CLEAR
.
It is reasonable, I guess, for them to expect a mention in the interview.
.
What jumps out at me is that on first glance they are just a bunch of the usual word associations derived from the usual desired character strengths and personal qualities.
.
Then it hits me that these are more than just abstract words.
These words reflect qualities, diamonds that shine in all of us with differing degrees of clarity.
.
Compassion, Excellence, Accountability, Respect.
As nurses, we can all relate to where we are on a continuum with these.
.
The one that stands out to me is 'Leadership'.
.
I rush to re-read my work on High Performance Teams and Communities of Practice.
.
Yup. It is a perfect fit!
(Thanks to Jay Hays and Wendi!)
.
The pilgrimage is to escalate these ideas from mere words to implicit behaviours.
.
The vision is the desired future state.
The thunderbolt is that the most important person on the team is not the person with the most seniority nor the most experience;
It is the person with the most potential!
.
Doing well, well, It is easy to perform when everything runs smoothly.
.
The unique capacity builder lies in seeking effectiveness in breakdowns leading to improved responsiveness to dire situations and improved antifragility.
.
Each step is an accomplishment.
Celebrate the small wins.
.
And rather than talking about heirarchy, let's talk about
Clear Roles and Responsibilities (Accountability)
Clear Skills and Knowledge (Competency)
.
These are deliberate cognitive/behavioural expressions of the 'Scopes of Practice' and 'National Standards' as inscribed in the NSQHSS and ACORN Standards.
.
To develop the High Performing Team, you can't rely on the miracle to walk through your door and solve all your problems.
.
It takes a specific sort of engagement and lots of patience and hard work:
'Mutual Support and Coaching to Grow Capacity'.
.
That's where I fit in, but only if you believe in the vision.
.
Can I get Professional Development points for reading my own website?
.
That's one hour of CPD!
Lol.
.
Pete!
